The Tarlant family traces their winegrowing history back to 1687, when Pierre Tarlant first cultivated grapevines in the Marne Valley. In 1928, Louis Adrien Tarlant produced the family’s first estate-bottled champagne, and since then there have been four successive generations of Tarlants producing wine at their estate in the village of OEuilly. Today the estate is in the hands of Benoît Tarlant, who has been making wine here since 1999.
Dating from the Lutetian era 45 million years ago, this terroir is the only remaining place where the Chardonnay can be grown ungrafted on its own roots. La Vigne d'Antan (The Vines of Yesteryear), Grower Tarlant believes reveals the true nature of the chardonnay grape, with aromas unknown elsewhere since the 19th century. This exclusive Champagne invites you to a timeless tasting of a wine of rare purity.

Tarlant's Extra Brut La Vigne d'Antan is one of the great wines of Champagne. It shows marvelous detail in its sumptuous, yet well-delineated fruit. Minerals, mint and flowers are some of the nuances that develop as the wine sits in the glass. Early signs of development in the bouquet suggest this won't be a terribly long-lived Vigne d'Antan, but somehow I have a sense most bottles won't be around long enough for that to be much of an issue. La Vigne d'Antan is Chardonnay from ungrafted vines. It is a totally compelling, viscerally thrilling wine in every way.
