AOC Cotes de Castillon

Château d'Aiguilhe is located on hills overlooking the Right Bank of the Dordogne River, on the border between the Côtes de Castillon and Saint-Emilion appellations.
This 110 hectare estate has 50 hectares of vines, which are planted exclusively on the upper part of the hills. The vineyard has excellent natural drainage and south-facing sun exposure.

The thin layer of clay-limestone and clay-silt topsoil covers a layer of rather meagre soil on a limestone substratum. This terroir provides wonderful hydric regulation all year round and, combined with vines an average of 28 years old, produces outstanding grapes.

Tasting Notes:

the 2007 d-Aiguilhe is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. A dark ruby/purple color is followed by sweet black currant, charcoal, roasted herb, and spice box aromas presented in a weighty, medium to full-bodied, surprisingly rich, lush style.

the opaque plum/ruby/purple-tinged 2008 d’Aiguilhe reveals abundant notes of licorice, fruitcake, black currants and kirsch, sweet tannin, a round, generous texture and impressive purity as well as length. It should be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years.

Purplish red in colour, this red boasts a medium nose exuding woody, spicy, floral and fruity aromas. Discover this medium-bodied wine expressing refreshing acidity and offering a broad texture and fleshy tannins. It also unveils a medium mouthfeel that leads into a medium finish.

This reliable, over-achieving Castillon boasts a dense ruby/purple color in addition to abundant black currant and black cherry fruit intermixed with notions of forest floor and spring flowers. A juicy, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel as well as super purity and ripeness, and beautiful integration of oak, acidity, tannin and alcohol suggest this delicious, front end-loaded value selection should drink nicely for 8-10 years.

One of the better wines from Castillon, this wine, from the Neipperg family, exhibits a dark ruby/purple color, nice spice, earth and red and black fruits. It is medium-bodied with light tannin and a soft underbelly. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. A sleeper.
