To know about Chateau Moulin Rich, we have to learn Chateau Leoville Poyferre first. It is an estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Médoc, which was rated a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. In 1979 with the accession of Didier Cuvelier, his wines once again put Leoville Poyferre on the map to wine lovers all over the world. Some of the first changes made by the young 26 year old Didier Cuvelier include bringing Michel Rolland as well as Emile Peynaud into the fold. This was quickly followed by a modernization of the winemaking facilities at their Left Bank estate. The positive changes in the wine from Leoville Poyferre can easily be seen by tasting the wine. The rapid jump in quality first appeared in 1982.
The estate also produces Château Moulin Riche, which was once a separate estate. It is made to be more accessible in its youth, but is not considered a second wine to the grand vin.

Tasting Notes:
(Robert Parker's rating: 87-89 points)
Blackberries and blueberry at first, a puff of chalk dust a little later and then after ten minutes there is strong black olive scent. The palate is full-bodied with dense, slightly hard tannin. This is a very masculine Moulin Riche, aloof at this early juncture with a sharp, terse finish. It needs to find more "rondeur" by the time of bottling but I suspect it will eventually settle at the upper end of my score bracket. (Issued in 2015)
