Domaine J.M.

Domaine J.M. Boillot is a Burgundy wine estate which is based in Pommard but it makes a large range of wine with appellations in Cote de Beaune and expanded to Languedoc in 1998.
The founder, Jean Marc Boillot, worked with his grandfather, Henri Boillot, at the family's domaine from 1971 to 1984. Then a family disagreement prompted him to leave and become a winemaker for Olivier Leflaive. In 1989 he created the Domaine when his grandfather retired and rent his vines holdings in Volnay, Pommard, and Meursault. Later in 1993, Jean-Marc inherited more vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet from his maternal grandfather, the late Étienne Sauzet.
Now he works with Lydie his daughter, and François his son-in-law. They all respect the vines which are over 40 years old with greatest affection.

Tasting Notes:
(Vinous' rating: 89 points)
(production on this rocky hillside site was 47 hectoliters per hectare, as this was the estate's only Pinot Noir vineyard that escaped the late-April frost): Bright medium red. Sedate, complex aromas of red fruits, spices, mocha and minerals, lifted by a whiff of rose petal. A distinctly more relaxed style than the severely frosted 2016s here, broad and subtly sweet but with some cooling menthol and mint elements. Ultimately a wine of moderate concentration but good breadth. Turns a bit herbal, even tart, on the finish, with the tannins coming across as a bit dusty.
