The Royal Tokaji Winery was founded in 1990, has become one of the most famous producers in Tokaj. The world's best-loved wine writer Hugh Johnson teamed up with Ben Howkins and winemaker Peter Vinding-Diers as founders, their goal is to revive and bring back to international acclaim the legendary Hungarian wines.
The vineyards lie at the convergence of two main rivers, Tisza and Bodrog. It is the presence of warm summer winds, from the mountains shelter, and from the rivers the rising autumn mists that promote Botrytis. The shrivelling of the grapes, the intense concentration of their sugar, acidity and flavour are unique to the Tokaj region.

(Vinous' rating: 91 points)
The 2013 Tokaji Blue Label 5-Puttonyos has a clean, floral bouquet. The very pure, well-balanced palate offers flavours of lemon curd, caramel, strawberry and a touch of almond and a core that is quite Sauternes-like, with dried honey, pineapple and a touch of quince that feels long and satisfying in the mouth.
