Château Mouton Rothschild.

The property in the 18th century, along with Lafite and Latour, of the 'prince of wines', the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Segur, then the Barons de Brane, Château Mouton Rothschild took its present name after it was acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, from the English branch of the famous dynasty, in 1853.
In 1924, Baron Philippe decided that all wine should be bottled at the château, asserting the role and responsibility of the owners of top growths in the face of the all-powerful Bordeaux wine trade.
In 1973, Mouton was elevated to 'first growth' status after decades of intense lobbying by its powerful and influential owner, the only change in the original 1855 classification.

First Growth

Bordeaux, France

Type:
Red/Rouge (Still)

Cabernet Sauvignon 86%, Merlot 14%

Vinification:
Grapes are fed by gravity into the vat room, vats are of different sizes, correspond to the different parcels of the estate. Majority of the vats are made of oak, others are made of stainless steel

Ageing:
Fining with egg white. Wines are matured in new oak barrels for at least 20 months, and the barrels are transferred to the second year cellars, the wine stays cool until the end of its stay at the Château.

Tasting Notes:
The wine has an attractive deep colour with a garnet hue and an open, complex nose dominated by notes of humus and fern along with jammy fruit and prunes.
Full on the attack, it shows opulence and attractive substance over close-knit, caressing tannins, developing intense roast coffee notes set off by a lovely reminder of the humus aromas on the nose.
The powerful, full bodied finish lingers long on the palate, revealing the expression and sheer class of great Mouton vintages, reminiscent in its richness and harmony of the very fine 1986.
