(Robert Parker's rating: 89 points)

(Allen Meadows: 89 points)

Tasting note:
A discreetly but perceptibly wooded and menthol-suffused nose speaks of cassis, black raspberry liqueur and warmth earth scents. The intense and if somewhat less solidly constituted flavors are slightly finer while concluding in a youthfully austere finish that offers good depth and persistence. This is a very good Marsannay villages that should repay mid-term cellaring.

One of the legendary wineries in Bourgogne, the Roty family has produced wines in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1710. Parts of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are considered as one of the best in the Cote d'Or.  The owner, Joseph Roty, passed away in 2008. He had strong character, refused to have interview with journalists and to disclose the details of winemaking.  The Domaine was then take over by his son Philippe Roty, who owned some parcels in Marsannay,  and produced some of the wines under the Philippe Roty label.  It is a pity that Philippe passed away in 2015.  Now the domaine is managed by his mother and brother, who incorporated Philippe's personal vines into the Joseph Roty label, which has rapid appreciation.
The average age of the vines is more than 60 years which sourced from vines planted in 1881.   A combination of new and two-year old oak barrels are used for maturation depending on the vintage.

Tasting note:
(Robert Parker's rating: 89 points)
The 2018 Marsannay opens in the glass with notes of spiced plums, cherries and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with powdery tannins and a lively, charming profile, this has turned out nicely and will offer a broad drinking window.
