Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Founded in 1970, the winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley when the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the now famous 1976 Paris Tasting.
Along a shady walkway on the tranquil grounds of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars one comes across a succession of limestone plaques, each bearing a handprint. These handprints comprise the Hands of Time exhibit, an enduring tribute to some of the many people who contributed to the winery's history over the years and have gone on to become celebrated winemakers and viticulturalists in their own right.
This wine belongs to the estate collection, which is a series of three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and one of them is the Fay vineyard. The vineyard team farms the estate vineyards with precision and care, diligently working to extract the treasured characteristics that the unique terroir imparts. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Fay Estate-Grown comes from a vineyard established by Nathan Fay in 1961. Beautiful blackcurrant, floral-infused fruit jumps from the glass of this dense ruby/purple wine. There are some loamy underpinnings of soil, but the wine is medium to full-bodied, beautifully fruited, with great texture, and terrific purity and personality. This is a serious and beautiful wine to drink over the next 20-25 years, if not longer.
