Elisabeth Pichler-Krutzler from the Wachau and Erich Krutzler from the Burgenland founded their own wine estate in the Wachau in 2006. Both husband and wife originated from famous wine-making families. Together, they craft wines of great soul and individuality, based on a respect form nature, sustainable viticultural practice and low intervention.
From a more than 65 years old tiny parcel at the famous Steiner Pfaffenberg the grapes for this remarkable wine are growing. The soils are barren and composed of crystalline primary rock dominated by Gneiss and Mica schist. Mostly cool winds are breezing from the west and it is hence exposed to temperature extremes. The Pfaffenberg is supposed to be one of the best places for Riesling in entire Austria. Solely worked by hand and organic since 2017.

The 2021 Steiner Riesling Ried Pfaffenberg is deep, precise and flinty on the rather coolish but ripe and intense, well-concentrated and precise nose. Medium to full-bodied on the dense and textured palate, this is a pretty rich and intense, savory and stimulating Pfaffenberg with a persistently saline and stimulatingly grippy, phenolic finish. This is a Best Buy this year from the Wachau and Kremstal.
