Since its 2000 debut, Amon-Ra Shiraz has become a Barossa Valley flagship. Named after the ancient Egyptian "King of all Gods," the wine features the Eye of Horus on its label, symbolising the six senses and the wine's sensory impact. The estate is run by the Glaetzer family, among the earliest European winemakers to settle in the Barossa.
Grapes are sourced from 50- to 130-year-old Ebenezer Shiraz vines, including precious centenarian plantings. Yields are extremely low, with many vines meticulously tended by multi-generational grower partners. A warm, dry climate combined with red-brown clay and sandy soils allows the wine to showcase the striking power and structural tension of Barossa Shiraz.
Today, the estate is led by Ben Glaetzer, Wine Enthusiast’s Winemaker of the Year. His creation of Amon-Ra quickly earned critical acclaim from Robert Parker, whose repeated 96–99 point scores propelled it to cult wine status.

Dramatic, intense and powerful, the 2016 Amon Ra Shiraz recalls the 2004 in its youth, crammed with layers of fruit, complex, savory elements and rich, velvety tannins. It's full-bodied, characterized by notes of grilled meat, espresso, black olive, cassis, vanilla, baking spices and an undercurrent of loamy earth. Yes, it's unapologetically big and bold, the product of a warm, sunny climate and ripe grapes, but it does show a sense of decorum, restraint and elegance on the long finish.
