Dark Origins has been released in homage to the founder Magnus Eunson. He is a legend who worked as a butcher and church officer by day, but he became a whisky distiller and smuggler in the dead of the night in the late 1700s, to offer relief from the villainy of the tax collector.
As Highland Park never add coloring to the whisky, they create the dark character by using sherry casks. Dark Origins is a combination of 80% first fill sherry casks (of which 60% is European oak and 20% American) and 20% refill sherry, resulting in a naturally darker and richer flavour.
