Nicolas Potel – A winemaking legacy in Burgundy. Born into a winemaking family, Nicolas was the son of Gérard Potel, who managed the renowned Domaine de la Pousse d’Or in Volnay. Raised among the vines, Nicolas was deeply influenced by his father and gained winemaking experience in Australia and California. In 1997, following his father’s sudden passing and the sale of the family estate, Nicolas was forced to start anew.
With strong connections and natural talent, he founded Maison Nicolas Potel in 1998, focusing on small-batch wines made from old vines. The label quickly earned a reputation in Burgundy. Although financial challenges led to the sale of the brand and his departure in 2008, Maison Nicolas Potel continues to uphold its high standards and quality.
In 2005, Nicolas established Domaine de Bellene, and in 2008 launched the négociant label Maison Roche de Bellene, continuing his dedication to terroir and excellence. In June 2025, Nicolas sadly passed away at the age of 56, leaving behind a remarkable winemaking legacy.
