La Soufrandière is a traditional estate in Vinzelles, Southern Burgundy, rooted in the Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Quarts climat. Founded by Jules Bret in the mid‑20th century, the domaine grew from a single hectare to over 4.5 ha under his son Jean‑Paul.
Since 2000, brothers Jean‑Philippe, Jean‑Guillaume, and Marc‑Antoine have produced estate‑bottled wines, pioneering organic and biodynamic practices in Mâconnais. Alongside their Bret Brothers label, they craft acclaimed Chardonnay and Gamay from old vines across Mâconnais and Beaujolais, combining tradition with innovation to express some of the region’s finest terroirs.
Les Quarts climat is regarded as one of the finest terroirs of in Pouilly-Vinzelles. At an altitude of 250m, southeast‑facing Chardonnay vines are rooted in living clay and limestone soils rich in siliceous crystals, giving the wine remarkable longevity.
Cuvée Millerandée is a selection from the oldest vines in Les Quarts (80 years old). The term Millerandé refers to naturally small berries resulting from vine age and soil conditions. These berries concentrate sugars, acids, and aroma precursors, producing a wine of exceptional intensity, complexity, and aging potential.

Discreet wood sets off similarly, if more floral, but with fewer citrus-infused aromas. As is usually the case, the medium-weight plus flavours possess outstanding mid-palate density while exhibiting a caressing yet powerful mouthfeel. The longer and more complex finish also flashes plenty of minerality. This, too, is constructed to reward mid-term cellaring, and I recommend allowing at least 3 to 5 years of cellaring first. One to look for. Drink from 2027 onward.
