(James Suckling's rating: 95 points)
Born from the alliance of two renowned wine families—Baron Philippe de Rothschild of France and Concha y Toro of Chile—Almaviva represents a meeting of cultures and traditions. Crafted from classic Bordeaux varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon at its core, Almaviva combines Chile’s exceptional terroir with France’s winemaking expertise to deliver elegance and complexity. Its creation marked a milestone in the rise of Chilean wines on the global stage.
EPU, Almaviva’s second wine, takes its name from the Mapuche word for “two,” honoring one of southern Chile’s principal indigenous cultures. Produced from the same outstanding Puente Alto vineyards, EPU follows the tradition of second wines from Bordeaux’s most prestigious châteaux. Made in limited quantities, it shares Almaviva’s pedigree and refinement, while expressing its own distinctive personality.

Tasting Notes:
(Robert Parker's rating: 93 points)
The 2022 Epu leads with a poised yet charmingly rustic nose of ripe red fruits flanked by herbaceous, leathery accents. The palate is concentrated and full-bodied, with an opulent, forward richness that transitions to a decedent, chocolate-tinged finish of rich tannins and a lingering herbal, menthol-laced conclusion. A well-made balance between style and place, this serves as a pleasurable and accessible introduction to the more poised, nuanced Almaviva.
(James Suckling's rating: 95 points)
Refined sweet tobacco, black olives and hints of paprika, cedar, iron and anchovy-like savoriness. Refined sweet berries on the palate with a lovely savoriness. Medium-bodied and restrained, plush and generous, with fine tannins and a lengthy finish.
