Château Pichon-Longueville Baron, generally referred to as Pichon Baron, is an estate in the Pauillac appellation rated as a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. As with other top Pauillac wines, the grand vin is prized for its combination of powerful dark fruits, finesse and elegance, and ability to age for many decades.

Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is the estate's latest addition. This wine has a pure and direct character. The grapes which make up this wine's blend come primarily from gravelly plots of land near to the Gironde estuary, a good environment for Cabernet-sauvignon. Les Griffons offers a vigorous and fresh tasting experience, full-bodied and clean, overflowing with energy. It can be laid down in the cellar for over 20 years or enjoyed right away.

Tasting Notes:
2014 Vintage (Robert Parker's rating: 91 points):

The 2014 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron felt very muted on the nose, reluctantly reveals scents of blackberry and raspberry pastilles, a touch of warm gravel/bricks underneath. The palate is medium-bodied, an elegant Pauillac for certain with silky smooth tannin and very well-judged acidity. Perhaps the growing season deprived it of the substance, yet this feminine wine should drink well for a decade or more.

2016 Vintage (Robert Parker's rating: 88 points):
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron gives aromas of tar, sautéed herbs and earth over a cassis and baked cherries core. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and chewy, finishing with an herbal lift.

2017 Vintage (Robert Parker's rating: 89-91 points):
The Cabernet Sauvignon-based expression of Pichon Baron’s second wine contains 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron has expressive notes of cassis, crushed black cherries and black raspberries with hints of lavender, underbrush, Provence herbs and tilled soil. The palate is medium-bodied and incredibly elegant with great freshness and very fine tannins, finishing earthy.

2018 Vintage (Robert Parker's rating: 91 points):
Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose opens with wonderfully pure cassis and ripe black plums notes, leading to hints of clove oil, chocolate-covered cherries and tobacco leaf, with a waft of bay leaves. The palate delivers a firm, rugged texture and soft acidity, framing the mouth-coating black fruits nicely, finishing on a savory note.
