Thibault Liger‑Belair, cousin of Louis‑Michel of Domaine du Comte Liger‑Belair, comes from a family whose roots trace back to Claude Marey’s négoce founded in 1720, later joined with the Liger‑Belair lineage.
In 2001, Thibault took over the family’s old property in Nuits‑Saint‑Georges, with holdings in Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, and Les Saint‑Georges. The domaine is certified organic and biodynamic, with horses used for ploughing, and emphasizes “listening to the vines” to express terroir. Winemaking favors infusion over heavy extraction, with no more than 50% new oak. The wines combine purity and depth, showing mineral character and layered complexity.
Les Renardes, planted in 1956, lies mid‑slope on Corton’s southeast‑facing hill. A limestone fault creates chalky soils below and clay above, giving this climat its distinctive terroir and reputation as one of Corton’s finest sites.

The 2012 Corton Renardes Grand Cru from Thibault Liger-Belair is one of his best offerings this vintage. It has a pastille-like bouquet with strawberry winegums and quite conspicuous oak at the moment that will need to be subsumed. There is just a touch of smoked meats in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, rounded red berry fruit, slightly lower acidity than its peers with a velvety finish that is more about the texture than intrinsic complexity. This is a thoughtfully crafted, delicious Corton Renardes.
