Chateau de Francs Les Cerisiers 2006 (JR:16)

FRR000085

Jancis Robinson (JR:16):
"Black! And indeed there is more than a hint of black cherries on the nose! Quite extraordinarily sumptuous! However did they manage to do that? Really supple… or at least there is lots of ripe fruit covering the tannin here. Pretty dry tannins on the finish. But still, quite exceptional. Well done!"

Dominating the landscape, the Chateau de Francs is an architectural marvel of the Middle Ages, surrounded by a beautiful vineyard now fully restored. This magnificent estate with 37 hectares of vines on a fabulous clayey limestone close to what one finds on the plateau of Saint Emilion.
Chateau de Francs was originally a military stronghold under English rule from 115 to 1453, date of the Battle of Castillon. Only part of the Chateau was used as a stately home, the rest being reserved for 300 troops with their horses and crews. Segur family who put the Chateau de Francs available to the British, was forced to sell it when Aquitaine became French under Henri IV.
