Torbreck RunRig is the flagship wine of the estate, crafted from rare old-vine Shiraz in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, with some vines over a century old. Founded in 1994, Torbreck is dedicated to preserving and reviving these historic vineyards.
RunRig is predominantly Shiraz with a small co-fermented addition of Viognier, inspired by the great Côte-Rôtie wines of the Northern Rhône, yet it also carries the power and richness reminiscent of Hermitage. It combines immense power with elegance, delivering rich fruit, layered complexity, and remarkable aging potential. Recognized as one of Australia’s cult wines, RunRig stands alongside Penfolds Grange as a benchmark of Barossa excellence.

No RunRig was made in 2000. The 2001 RunRig features six single vineyards, an increase from the two or three that went into the RunRig wines from the 1990s. The nose is more restrained than the previous wines, and the palate is as well, with an undeniable power that surges through the finish. This is tightly wound and closed for the most part, with length that continues long after the wine is gone. This bodes well for its future.
