Château Cheval Blanc 1995 (RP:92)

AOC Saint Emilion Grand Cru

Merlot, Cabernet Franc

There was a time when Cheval Blanc was merely 'Le Barrail des Cailloux', a modest smallholding where vines grew. But then came the nineteenth century and the estate's romantic dream of greatness. From 1832 when the estate was conceived, up to 1871 when it finally reached its present-day configuration, the pages of the legendary history of Cheval Blanc were written.

And since every Genesis needs its defining moment, it was the idea of marrying the Merlot, the traditional variety used in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, with the Caberbet Franc that gave birth to Cheval Blanc.

AOC Saint Emilion Grand Cru

Country of Origin:
Bordeaux, France

Red/Rouge (Still)

Grape Varieties:
Merlot, Cabernet Franc

Tasting Notes:
A very dark ruby-red in the colour, with a hint of changing colour around the rim. The bouquet is powerful and smooth, dominated by Merlot. Ripe plums and blackcurrant take turns with torrefaction (coffee, mocha), leather, truffles and violets, and even exotic hints of dried banana and coconut. The woody vanilla hints blend in superbly. The attack on the palate is fresh and elegant, fleshy and concentrated with very ripe but not over-ripe fruit. The tannin are mellow and the finish intense. 1995 is a graceful vintage to be enjoyed now or left to age longer.
