Calon’s origins date back to the Gallo-Roman era, with its name derived from "calones," which were small transport vessels navigating the Gironde estuary. While wine production on the estate can be traced to the 12th century, but the estate's most significant chapter began in the 18th century under Nicolas-Alexandre, the Marquis de Ségur, who also owned Latour, Lafite, and Mouton, leading to its renaming as Calon Ségur.
In the 1855 classification, it achieved the rank of Third Classified Growth. The Gasqueton family preserved the estate's distinctive character from 1894 until 2012.
In 2012, Suravenir Assurances acquired the property, continuing to craft wines that reflect a unique style and a true expression of the appellation, guided by renowned consulting oenologist Éric Boissenot.
Le Marquis de Calon Ségur is one of the most sought-after Second Wine. It provides immediate enjoyment, warmth and a velvety texture while at the same time evoking the elegance of the Grand Vin.

Aromas of dark berries and plums mingled with violets and lilac introduce the 2021 Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur, a medium-bodied, layered wine that's deep and complete, with powdery structuring tannins that lend this a decidedly serious, age-worthy profile for a second wine in this vintage.

Sweet currant and black currant with violet undertones. Medium-bodied with fine and caressing tannins that follow through nicely at the finish. Slight hollow center palate but will fill in nicely. Drink from the end of 2024 and onwards.
